Difference between liquid defoamer and solid defoamer

Liquid defoamer usually refers to a liquid product that can reduce the surface tension in the liquid and prevent the generation and accumulation of bubbles, thereby eliminating foam.
Solid defoamer is a defoamer that exists in solid form and its working principle is similar to that of liquid defoamer. They both destroy the foam structure by changing the surface tension.
First of all, from the perspective of use, liquid defoaming agents usually exist in liquid form and are easy to add to the liquid that needs defoaming. Solid defoaming agents need to be dissolved or suspended in liquid in advance, which makes the operation a little cumbersome.
In addition, solid defoaming agents are relatively easy to get wet and agglomerate during storage and transportation, while liquid defoaming agents are relatively stable and relatively convenient to store and transport.
Secondly, from the perspective of the defoaming effect, liquid defoaming agents can usually quickly form a thin film on the liquid surface, effectively reducing surface tension and preventing the formation and diffusion of bubbles， resulting in faster and more obvious defoaming. Solid defoaming agents need time to dissolve or be suspended in liquid to exert their defoaming effect. The defoaming speed is slower, but the durability is better.
Thirdly, from the aspects of environmental protection and safety, liquid defoaming agents may have risks of leakage and volatilization during production and use. Some liquid defoaming agents may contain volatile organic compounds, causing environmental pollution. Solid defoaming agents are relatively stable, less volatile, easier to store and transport, and have less impact on the environment.
Finally, from a cost perspective, liquid defoamers are generally relatively cheap, with low production costs and more affordable prices. Due to the complicated production process of solid defoaming agents, the production cost is relatively high and the price is also expensive.
To sum up, liquid defoamer and solid defoamer have their own advantages and disadvantages in terms of usage, defoaming effect, environmental safety and cost.
